Nutrition Answers for Beginners

When a person starts their transformation journey, they will typically have a TON of questions on what changes they need to make to their nutrition and eating to see the best results. Makes sense. There is so much information out there that those just starting out have paralysis by analysis.

Should you follow a low carb diet? But I thought you needed carbs? Do you take fruit out? What about dairy? I heard that bread makes you fat? No eating past 5pm? Is butter a carb?

Yeah… no wonder those that are just starting out are overwhelmed.

Below are some of the most commonly asked nutrition questions those that are just starting their transformation journey will have, hopefully, some of these here will help 😉

Should I take a pre-workout?

Should I cut out fruit?

Trying to be a voice of reason here I want us to look at it in a practical view, so let me ask a question. How many people do you know got fat by eating apples? I’ll wait for you to think about this… take your time.

Did you think of anyone? Me neither. Now unless you have a medical condition or food allergy there is no reason to take fruit out of a diet or meal plan, in fact, it’s quite healthy and beneficial for the body to have one to two servings of fruit a day.

Fruit doesn’t make people fat; cupcakes make people fat.

How many meals a day should I eat?

Do I need to cut out bread and dairy?

Unless you have a gluten or dairy intolerance, then you don’t need to avoid grains or dairy. I know that this has been a default weight loss tactic for some websites and media but dairy and grain have gotten a bad rap over time. You don’t NEED to eat them nor do you need to avoid them.

What we tell our members here is that grains and dairy in moderation (think 1-2 servings a day) usually does pretty well for most people and promotes a better long-term nutrition plan, but if you find that you experience GI issues then you can avoid the food that caused it.

NOTE: Sometimes it’s NOT dairy that caused you GI issues but something else in what you ate, the same principle applies to grains. It may not be ALL grains that upset you but only some.

In the long run, it’s the ability to follow a way of eating over time that ensures the results you want. So AGAIN, if you experience GI issues that the less for you, for now, the better but if you have no GI issues then you’re ok having them in your daily eating plan.

What should I eat before my workout?
