From Brain Tumor to Lifter

“I didn’t want to let this tumor define me…”
[Dena Stovall, from brain tumor to powerlifter and gym bada$$]

I first met Dena about 2 years ago…

She came in still suffering from the effects of brain surgery due to a tumor several years back. All she wanted to change her body and just get back to where she was before her surgery.

When she started with us at RTC squatting her body weight correctly was a challenge, her body didn’t know how to jump on a 4″ step, she would get winded so quickly, and her body was wrecked from all the post-surgery medications.

We had to rebuild her from the ground up.

Fast forward several years later… she’s a state record holder in powerlifting, her cardio/conditioning is worlds better, she can do bodyweight pull-ups, weighted dips and handstand push-up for REPS.

She is, in her own words, “…in the best shape of my life.”

I can’t take all the credit for her, she is one of the hardest workers I’ve met.

This has been a story that I’ve been begging her to share for YEARS because it’s so damn impressive and she continues to inspire many here.
