Post-Workout… Cereal?

About a month ago, I started eating a new post-workout meal.

Cereal.

Yes, cereal.

But not just any kind of cereal… oh no… this is MUCH better for you than a bowl of Lucky Charms or Cookie Crisp.

Here are a few options that I do…

Option 1:
In a shaker cup:
1 cup of lactose-free milk (if you can handle lactose that’s great, I’m just not one of those people)
One scoop of protein
Shake well

In a bowl
1.5 cups of frozen blueberries
1 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios (or anything easy on your stomach, I don’t do well with wheat, so Cheerios work for me since it’s oat-based)

Pour the contents of the shaker cup over your cereal and berries and BAM!

Option 2: (my preferred way)
IN a shaker cup:
1 cup of lactose-free milk
1 cup of pasteurized liquid egg whites

In a bowl
1.5 cups of frozen blueberries
1 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios

Pour contents of the shaker cup over your cereal and berries and enjoy!

A few things to note:

-If you use protein powder make sure it’s vanilla… you can use chocolate and other flavors, but I’m not sure how it will mix with your berries and cereal.
-Frozen berries work best, keeps the milk cold and gives more of a crunch.
-You do NOT have to add in cereal but instead just berries. (no fruit will not make you fat)
-If you do use cereal make sure it’s easy on the gut and low in sugar; if you feel bloating afterward most likely cereal didn’t agree with you, and you need to find an alternative
-Don’t let the thought of pasteurized egg whites (those liquid egg-whites you find in a carton) freak you out. They are tasteless, and it’s a SUPER simple way to get in more high-quality protein. Seriously, anyone that has ever tried them in their shakes can NEVER taste or tell the difference.
-Pasteurization is a process of partial sterilization, so no chance of salmonella.

This has become one of my favorite meals of the day since it packs in a significant amount of protein, a small amount of fat, lots of good carbs (fruit), and if you want a small amount of cereal.

Give it a shot!
